The major Latin work of Meister Eckhart has been much disputed: bad Thomism, mysticism, or pure philosophy? Is it heretical? After a short introduction into life and work of the great controversial Dominican, his commentary on the gospel of Saint John will be analyzed, including reading of selected passages, on the background of the respective works by Albert the Great and Thomas Aquinas, to show his heritage and his originality.
